Father's day

I needed to get working on Father's day cards since I will not be stamping next week. I pulled out my rarely used Stampendous Perfect Clear set For Him. I recently took a class with Cathie Allen and thought I would try her stamp Smoosh technique with the set but Cathie is right, you can't do the stamp smoosh technique with clear sets! I stamped the dots stamp from this set with clear ink and embossed with clear then I stamped the tool stamp randomly over a piece of white cardstock and a white Stampendous tag with Versamagic Green Tea, Gingerbread and Aegean blue inks. I then took a piece of Ranger Cut N Dry foam and applied these same inks to the leftover white areas on the tag and background. I colored the handle of the hammer with a pencil crayon just for fun. I then ironed the clear embossing powder off the card and tag. The powder acted like a resist so I had/have white dots on the card as well. I then stamped the celebrate your day on the tag and edged it with a Pitch Black Ranger Pigment pen and added 2 screw brads from Creative Imaginations. I drew a black line around my larger background piece and stamped a Dad border along the bottom. I matted the background piece onto brown, blue and then white cardstock. Voila! The card was done. I think my Dad will get this card since he is always helping out with fix it up projects around Crafty Capers and he's a great dad!

New Alcohol Ink Technique!

I must confess I did not invent this technique. I found it on a blog that I thought I had bookmarked but I can't find it now. If anyone knows who invented this technique please let me know so I can give proper credit.

This technique uses Ranger Alcohol inks dripped along the edge of glossy cardstock with lots of blending solution.

I'm really happy with how this card turned out and it has gotten me using my old alcohol inks all over again. All the stamps used are by Art Impressions. I stamped the images with Memories black dye ink.

Life in the Deep end!

I had a super busy weekend with my sister at the Stamp Out Breast Cancer event held at Granville Island weekend. It was great fun and very well organized! I even managed to squeeze in a few classes! :) I should have taken photos during the event but those instructors (Cathie Allen & Julie Ebersol) kept us hopping! I guess Julie did not keep us hopping enough because my sister, Kim did manage to snap a photo of us!

I love this saying by Art Impressions! I needed to make a birthday card for my husband and for some reason this penguin reminded me of him even though he does not wear his pants this high or surf!

It's a fairly simple card I stamped and embossed the penguin image on watercolor paper and colored with my Tombows. I stamped the saying with Versafine Onyx Black on a tag I cut with my Spellbinders tag trio set. The main cardstock is Co-ordinations, the DP is by Fancy Pants the bottom layer of cardstock is Co-ordinations that I ran through my Cuttlebug with my D'Vine swirl folder and sanded to expose the lighter core color.

Lots of Man cards!

The end of May and into June are when all the men in my life have birthdays not to mention my anniversary and Fathers day as well! I made this card for my Dad's birthday. He usually requests Art Impression watercolor scenes when he needs cards for others so I figured it was about time he got one of his own. I'm not going to go into all the steps of this card it would take forever but I will say all the stamps used are made by Art Impressions. I used my Towbow markers as the ink and the scene is on 140lb watercolor paper. Crafty Capers has Art Impressions watercolor classes you can take if you are in the area. One last thing about this card is I thought the main brown cardstock looked a little naked so I used a tree stamp and stamped it with Versamark ink hoping for a watercolor effect. It was a bit too subtle for me so I quickly added some Perfect Pearls powders on top of the ink in Vintage gold. Hopefully, in the close up photo you can see this. Thanks for looking!

Same stamps, different card

Here is the Stampendous Sushi set again but in a different card. With this card you pull the tab and the fish moves along the card to reveal something underneath. I've never made interactive cards before and they are quite easy and fun. I'm not sure who is getting this one I'll have to put it in my stash for when I need an emergency card!

I started out with a square scrap of blue which I cut out a channel. I used my Spellbinders tag trio (well one of the anyway) to cut the channel. The die is not long enough so I cut it out once then matched up the cutting lip and made the channel longer. I then used the waves from the Stampendous clear set "Summer Scene" and stamped them near the top of the square. I added a splash as well. I stamped the school of fish and the weeds in the same color. I stamped the castle with a brown ink and the with the same brown on an orangy brown scrap. I cut out the fish and set aside. I laid the square on my main cardstock so I would know where the channel would be located and stamped the little fish and bubbles through the channel. I found a strip of Bazzill Bling in my scraps and stamped the coral and bubbles in brown on the strip. I attached the stamped square to the main cardstock with double sided mounting tape making sure I made a channel with the tape the width of my strip so it had a track to run along. I attached the fish with the same double sided mounting tape and cut the strip a little longer than the card and rounded the "pull" edges with a punch.

Something Fishy!

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. It's been a busy week!

I decided to play with a newer set from Stampendous that came into the store a week or so back. I really love this set and have already made several cards from the set and if we are all honest that does not always happen! :)

I started by stamping the fishbowl in black ink on a scrap of blue Bazzill bling cardstock (it's shimmery) then I cut out the inside of the bowl. I colored the top and bottom of the bowl with a blue Tombow marker to define them a bit more. I found a turquoise scrap in my bin with a circle cut of the the middle of it and with a little trimming along the outside it worked perfectly as a mat. I was very pleased with how thrifty that move was! On my main cardstock I stamped the castle and weeds with my new Versafine Vintage Sepia ink (love this ink, my new fav). I colored them with my Tombows. I added bubbles in the background with my Versamark ink. I stamped both goldfish onto a scrap of Magenta designer paper and cut them out. I stuck the fishing that is facing us right onto the card with my Be Creative tape. With the second fish I attached a piece of fish line to the back and attached the other end of the line behind the outside of the fishbowl so he moves when you move the card. Hopefully, you can see this in the closeup photo. It's the first time I've done one of these and it was easy and worked out very cute! Final Mother's Day card

Yes, I realize Mother's day was Sunday. I had this made on time just did not post it until now. And actually as I was uploading the card I realized there are 3 bees and my Mom has 3 girls! I planned it that way, of course! :)

I stamped the bees of a scrap of cream cardstock with Onyx Versafine ink and colored them withy my pencil crayons. I then stamped them again on another scrap and cut it out to ask like a mask when I stamped the butterflies. I stamped the butterflies diagonally across the page using a Ranger Big and Juicy pad (Happy Birthday). I matted the image twice using my square smooth and scalloped Nestabilities. I drew a wiggly black line around the bee image and added dots of Lemon Liquid Pearls in 2 corners. I added the ribbon and jewel as well as the saying stamped in the same Big and Juicy ink pad as the butterflies. Finally, I used some Stardust Stickles on the bee wings. Thanks for looking! On another note the store has received 2 new order this week a paper/cardstock order including more glossy cardstock and Stardream text weight paper as well as Art Impressions stamps with more watercolor stamps, penguins and other animals.
