Demo Sample

Happy World Card day everyone! Today is the official kick off to holiday cardmaking however I know quite a few of you have already got plans in place for your cards. I'm still thinking on my plan of action!
Instead, I have been messing around with the new, Cheery Lynn Crossover die cutting machine I purchased a few weeks ago. I quite like the 8.5" opening and the dial to turn up, or down, the roller pressure depending on what I am up to and the machine seems quite sturdy. I made this card after cutting out my Bigz Tattered Florals die with my new machine. I painted the flowers with my Adirondack gold paint dauber then stamped over the flowers with an Impression Obsession wood plank stamp for some interest then I used my clear embossing enamel and embossed them so they have clear bumps all over them. I used a piece of burlap from a wedding favor I received recently, an Impression Obsession button die cut I added the green ferns with a Dina Wakely stencil, lime Dina Wakley paint and a bit of Mowed Lawn Distress paint.
If you are interested in seeing the machine in action and getting some die cutting as well as embossing folder tips and tricks stop by Crafty Capers between 10:30 am- 1:30 pm the demo is free and we will have some other great things going on tomorrow as well! Hope to see you there.

Wishing happiness

I am still playing with the new Sizzix Susan's Garden flower dies. I made another wedding card using the rose die for the store's new window display.
As previously mentioned I used the Sizzix Rose die and I added some shading using a Spun Sugar Distress marker and a water brush. The white frame was cut out using a Spellbinder Radiant Rectangle die.
I stamped a Penny Black Happiness sentiment and embossed it with gold embossing powder then layered the white panel onto a pale green cardstock. I used a strip of gold mirror cardstock, embossed with a Sizzix embossing folder, along the bottom of the card to finish it off.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Susan's Garden Sizzix dies!

Here is another sample of the Sizzix Susan's Garden dies. This time used the Black Eyed Susan die. I cut out the flower petals with Bazzill cardstock then highlighted the petals with 025 & 062 Tombow markers. I made my flower and added some Black Stampendous Fun Flock with Glossy Accents glue.
The grey background is die cut by Spellbinder (an Expandabilities pattern). Sentiment by Flourishes.
Just a reminder there is a free demo at Crafty Capers June 8 10:30 am - 12:30 pm on the Susan's Garden dies. I've bee having so much fun with them lately!

New Dies - Oh so fun!

When I was shopping at one of my supplier last week I happened upon a new line of dies by Sizzix called "Susan's Garden". I was quite excited to see these dies because back about 7 or 8 years ago I used to make flowers like these using punches, and while very cool, were a bit of a pain to make with all the punching etc not to mention all the hand strain! Sizzix has come out with these same shapes but in a die format and in many cases you can cut out many of the shapes at the same time because they are all on the same plate! Genius!
This card is the card I made for my Mom for Mothers Day and I happy with how it turned out - simple but nice!
The daisies are from the "mini daisies" die set and I colored each petal with Inkagold gold metallic paint for some extra interest. Oval die cut is from the Spellbinder Classic Ovals, the dragonfly is by Memory Box. Sentiment by Flourishes. Pattern paper DCWV and Kaisercraft. I used Crystal Stickles on the dragonfly wings and some Yellow Liquid Pearls in the daisy centers.
The June Saturday demo at Crafty Capers (June 8 10:30 - 12:30) will be featuring these new dies and how to use them. Stay tuned for more samples in the coming weeks.

Merry Monday Challenge!

The gals over at the Merry Monday Challenge have bird theme going on this week and I found a few minutes to get a quick Christmas card done to play along!
I am pretty happy with how the card turned out and it was quick card to boot! Funny how you can get a card whipped up quickly when you are under a tight deadline!
I stamped an image from the Penny Black stamp set "Cold nose warm heart" then colored it with my Prisma pencil crayons. I added some Be Creative tape over top of the image and added some Warm Highlight Glitter Ritz glitter. I cut an arrow from the Tim Holtz movers and shapers mini jalopy and arrow set and hand wrote "north pole" I added a Memory Box die called Frosty Border. The embossing folder is by Sizzix/Hero Arts and the Holiday Cheer sentiment is also by Penny Black (wood mounted).
Well that brings me to 2 Christmas cards made for 2013. I think that is an all time record for me so early in the year! I am teaching 3 classes next week so I am guessing there will be not much time for playing this week but you never know. I do have a few ideas floating around in my head. :)
Thanks everyone for stopping by!

Small Business Saturday

Today is Small Business Saturday and to celebrate Crafty Capers has all in stock papers and cardstock 15% off. Sale ends 4 pm today (Nov 24) so don't delay!
Here is a quick card I created for a class I taught earlier this week. Fairly quick and easy but looks striking. I began by stamping the Hero Arts stamp Holiday Background on a piece of watercolor cardstock with Seafoam white embossing powder. I then took 3 blue Tombow markers and scribbled all over the watercolor cardstock then I took my water brush and blended all the colors together to make the holiday words really pop! I took a piece of white Stardream cardstock to act as my snowy ground. I embossed this cardstock with a Sizzix embossing folder to add some extra texture. I finished off the card by cutting a Dee's Distinctively snowy tree die out of Pacific American Craft Glitter paper. I added some True Blue Stickles to the background for even more pop! Thanks everyone for stopping by.

Snowflake Wreath

Seems kind of strange to be posting a snowflake card today when it is beautifully sunny here on Vancouver Island but I MUST get cracking on my Christmas cards only about 55 or so more to make in the next 2 weeks - no problem! LOL
This card was really quick to make and looks much nicer in person. I used the Sizzix Snowflake frame die to cut out 2 frames one out of Silver Stardream cardstock and the second out of blue Mirrorcardstock. I layered them on a 5.75x5.75 white card. I stamped a Penny Black sentiment and embossed it with Silver Dollar embossing powder then hand cut the banner. I wanted to add some pop to the banner so edged it with Adirondack denim dye in. I popped the banner up with foam tape then added a bunch of gems on the snowflakes. Card probably took 10 minutes to complete. I should have had Ginny (who was watching me) time it!
Just a reminder that Crafty Capers will be closed on Sunday Nov 11 for Remembrance Day but we will be open on Monday Nov 12. Please take a few minutes over the weekend to remember our veterans.

Thanks everyone for stopping by. Have a great weekend.

Stampendous Fun Flock with Sizzix Ink It plates

I'm very excited to show you this card because I came up with this technique by myself! No Youtubing or anything! LOL You saw it here first. I was in the shop one morning and wondered how Stampendous Fun Flock would work with the Ink It plates. They work out very cool as it turns out! I started out by applying a piece of Be Creative tape to a piece of light purple Bazzill cardstock. I dumped Stampendous Lavish Lilac Fun Flock onto the exposed tape. I pressed the flock onto the tape. It needs quite a bit of pressure to get a good full flock coverage so no being lazy and not pressing the flock into the tape! I then ran the Ink It plate Rustic Trellis through my Cuttlebug a couple of times to the entire piece of cardstock was covered with a beautiful embossed design. The finished result looks like embossed velvet! Beautiful! I used my Spellbinder Classic smooth and scallop ovals and stamped my Hero Arts sentiment with Memories Lavender ink. I cut out 2 corners from the Spellbinder die set Parisian Accents using gold glossy cardstock. The ribbon is one of the Hero Arts Hero Hues Ribbon. We also tried this technique with the Be Creative tape, Glitter Ritz and Brillance ink during the Saturday demo and it was pretty fabulous as well. I hope to get a card made up with this technique in the near future.

Perfect Pearls with Ink Its

Here is another card done with the new Sizzix Ink Its plates. This time I applied Ranger's Perfect Medium  to the plate Rustic Flower Border and ran the plate through my Cuttlebug then I dusted the impressed areas with Perfect Bronze Perfect Pearls. It added a beautiful metal type look to the inky areas!  I turned my card around to add just a bit of the border to the bottom of the card then dusted it with the Bronze Perfect Pearls. I stamped my Hero Arts sentiment with the Perfect Medium and dusted that with the Bronze powder as well. I LOVE how this card turned out! As is usual with pictures of Perfect Pearl projects the photo does not do it justice looks much better in person!
I really hope Sizzix comes out with some Christmas Ink It plates so I can use this technique on some Christmas cards! :)
Stay tuned for another VERY cool Ink It sample tomorrow!
