I thought I would pull out my Dreamweaver stencils last week and have a play with them since it has been a while. I ended up using a few stamps as well.
I began this card by sponging ink through the "fern" stencil I used the colors Memento Bamboo leaves, Versamagic Key Lime and Brillance Pearlescent thyme once I was happy with the color I used a piece of ripped from the recycling bin as a mask so I could stamp my Penny Black script stamp with my Hero Arts Soft Sand ink in the areas not covered by the stencil.
I finished off the card by stamping a Just Rite (cling) frame and sentiment stamp with the Brillance Pearlescent thyme ink then cut it out with my new Spellbinder Labels 18 die. I added some Hero Arts pearls to the card to finish it off.
Thanks for stopping by.

Finally a new card to post!
It's been quite busy at the store and at home so I have not had much time to play lately. :( I am happy to report I did manage to get out my Dreamweaver stencils and paste a few images over the weekend and am working on getting them made into cards. As usual, I am behind in my Christmas card making!! This card was pasted with Dreamweaver white paste then I added Glitter Ritz Highlight glitter to the wet paste then left it to dry. When the paste was dry I colored the paste with my Sakura Glaze pens. I matted the piece as shown. I used a sentiment by Penny Black. Pattern paper is by SEI. Main cardstock was stamped with more Penny Black stamps and Peeled Paint Distress Inks. Black Pearls are by Hero Arts.

Happy Canada Day!
Happy Canada Day everyone! I didn't think I would get any blog postings done this week because my week started off by having my car's head gasket and cylinder head blow up on the side of the road leaving me stranded on my way to work! Thank goodness for my good friends Chris and Duane for coming to my rescue since my husband was no where near his cell phone at the time! Looks like I will be celebrating the long weekend by going car shopping. That was not in my plans and kind of put a kibosh on my mojo.
:( Anyway onward and upward!
This card started out as a protype for an upcoming class but did not make the grade so to speak! However I LOVE how it turned out it just was not right for my class.
I began with a piece of Kraft cardstock which I stamped Hero Arts Dictionary Greetings onto with Versafine Sepia ink then I took a Dreamweaver stencil (fern) and ran the Kraft cardstock through my Cuttlebug to dry emboss the stencil the lazy girl's way! lol! I sponged Brillance Pearlescent Thyme ink through the stencil holes then I thought it needed a bit of oomph so I added some Versamagic Ocean Depth ink as well then I was happy! I matted the Kraft on a piece of slate cardstock and white embossed my sentiment (Hero Arts). I stamped my main cardstock because it was looking a little naked with the Hero Arts Fab Flourish stamp with my Versafine Sepia ink. I rounded some corners with my Corner Chomper and attached everything as shown.
Thanks for stopping by!

Easter Greetings

I made this card a while back when I was playing with stencils but thought it was just tooo early to be posting an Easter card just a few days after Valentines day so I have saved the goodness for a month or so.
This card was done with the double glitter technique because I love the look of the finished product!
It was a little fiddly getting the different colors on the eggs without contaminating the other area but well worth it.
I used my handy dandy Just Rite Myriad Pro font to spell out the Happy Easter sentiment. Thanks for stopping by!
Card Recipe:
Stencil: Dreamweaver Egg border
Glitter: Glitter Ritz & Stampendous
Tape: Be Creative
Paper: Bobunny Double Dot & Bazzil
Ink: Brillance Pearlescent Purple
Other: Tombow Glue Pen, Just Rite font for saying

Heat embossing #4
Part way through the demo last weekend someone pointed out that I used alot of Hero Arts stamps. Here is a card done with only 1 Hero stamp and it was not the main image! For this card I decided to change things up and show that you can use metal stencils and embossing powders together.
I began with a piece of Cathie Allen cardstock (130lb) and taped the egret stencil down on the paper. I applied a few inks through the holes of the stencil when I was happy I removed the stencil and pressed my Versamark ink pad all over the paper. Then I poured Crafty Capers Clear Enamel powder all over the piece then heated it. When the powder was melted it left the piece with a linoleum type texture (slightly bumpy) if you apply a second coat of Versamark ink and Clear Enamel you get a smooth finish over your piece. 2 different looks, you pick the one you like best.
We actually made a second piece and put it in the freezer then tried to crack the enamel for an old type look. It just seemed wrong to me to deliberately
bend my project so I was not good a cracking the enamel but Phil Coss who had stopped by to pick up his wife had no such worries and happily cracked the enamel for me! :)I added an embossed border around my card by using 5mm Be Creative tape as my "glue" for the embossing powder. I used Crafty Capers Teddy Bear powder for my borders and heated it. Be Creative tape is tough stuff so can take the heat of the heat gun without losing it's sticky unlike lots of other adhesives on the market.
Hope you found this sample informative.

Stamp: (sentiment) Hero Arts
Inks: Versmagic Oasis Green, Hint of Pesto, Gingerbread & Sahara Sand, Versafine Vintage Sepia, Versamark

Egret Vase

Still more stencil playing I was on quite a roll this week.
I paste embossed the Dreamweaver Ginger Jar stencil with Black Paste once it was dry I laid the Dreamweaver Egret stencil over top of the paste and applied Ranger's Perfect Medium through the holes in the stencil. I then applied Ranger's Perfect Pearls to the inky areas. I really love how this vase turned out. It looks kind of vintagy which seems to be a look I am getting quite a bit lately although it is not planned.
I matted the birds onto some grey cardstock then decided to edge the grey with my Posh Gold pen to add some glam to the card. I also did the same to my main cardstock. To finish the card off I added a gold Magenta sticker border.
If you have any questions about how this technique was done feel free to contact me. Thanks for looking!

Stencilling with glitter
The store needed some new Dreamweaver stencil samples so I was playing with stencils and glittler all day yesterday. I have VERY fancy jeans now due to all the sparkles! This card was done with Dreamweavers Mission Roses LJ size stencil using the double glitter technique. If you are unsure how to do the stencil/glitter technique come into Crafty Capers for a demo! I used Glitter Ritz glitter colors Fire Red, Champagne and Moss Green along with a Be Creative tape sheet. I used my Cuttlebug machine to dry emboss the black panel. The secret to not wrecking your stencil when you do this is not to put your stencil between your B plates. Put the stencil on your A plate and spray your cardstock with water makes for a deeper impression. The sandwich I use (from bottom to top) is A plate, Spellbinder tan mat, cardstock, stencil, 3 sheets of cardstock then 2 B plates.
Hope this gives you a little inspiration!

Celebrate!

This card was actually a combination of my playing with a few techniques. I am on a bit of a brayering kick right now so the orange background was done on white glossy cardstock and Ardirondack dye inks. I then got it into my head to try another technique I'd heard of using stencils. I taped my Dreamweaver stencil over the brayered background and applied a light colored ink through the holes of the stencil. I removed the stencil and began applying clear drying glue onto the inked areas where the stencil had been. I added Glitter Ritz as I went along being sure to make sure I worked with the dark glitter colors first since they can contaminate the lighter glitter colors. This took a bit of time but I am very please with the results!! I finished the card off by adding 2 orange strips of cardstock embossed with Cuttlebug's Number Collage folder since I was making this card as an 83rd birthday card I made sure 1 strip had an 8 in it and the other a 3. I highlighted those numbers with my Tombow white gel pen. I added a Happy Birthday sentiment at the bottome of the card.
Thanks for looking!

A Manly card
Well as promised I am, finally, getting around to posting another "manly" greeting card.
This card was super quick to make and used limited supplies as well!
I began by cutting a square hole out of a 4.5x5.5 piece of scrap cardstock. I used this as a mask. I placed the mask on the front of a white card and stenciled the green leaves using a Dreamweaver stencil. Once I was happy with the amount of leaves in the square I removed the mask and using my Scor-it board embossed a square around leaves to define the edges a little more.
I then put the stencil back down on the card (now without the mask) and taped it down with low tack tape. I decided to use my new Dreamweaver Glossy Black embossing paste which I applied into the holes of the stencil. I removed the tape and stencil while the paste was still wet. I used some oooold Luminart Primary Pigments (dry pigments similar to Ranger's Perfect Pearls) and sprinkled the pigments onto the wet paste. I let the paste dry overnight then brushed off the extra pigments with a blush brush and a Swiffer cloth.
I finished the card by stamping a sentiment in black ink.
Thanks for looking!

Finally finished the cards!
I have finished making my Christmas cards - hurray!I was in the shop on Saturday and remembered I had a penguin stencil I bought back in Sept that I had not used yet so I thought I would bring him out.
The technique for this is a bit complicated so bear with me.
I began by cutting a piece of Dreamweaver double sided adhesive slightly smaller than the size of the penguin stencil. I peeled 1 side of the backing off the adhesive and applied it to a scrap of white cardstock. I peeled the 2nd backing off the adhesive so I then had a sticky rectangle. I used a bar of 100% coconut oil soap (smells sooo good!) and rubbed the back side of my stencil with the soap. You want lots of soap on the back side of the stencil. The soap acts like a release agent. I placed the stencil soap side down on the exposed adhesive. I pressed the stencil lightly down on the adhesive so all areas had contact. I then poured black Glitter Ritz glitter over the stencil trying to leave the feathers on his head "non black". I pressed the glitter down and then tapped off the excess. I added Yellow Glitter Ritz glitter to his top feathers and pressed down. I tapped off the excess yellow glitter. I used my handy dandy blush brush to brush off excess glitter then I carefully removed my penguin stencil from the adhesive (this is where you find out if you put enough soap on. I find slipping a craft knife between the stencil and cardstock helps release the stencil). I added White Glitter Ritz glitter to his belly. I tried to keep the white glitter within the outline of his body because I added Be Creative Sugar Beads to the background of the stencil. I was trying to show this with my close up photo but you can't really see this.
I matted the penguing on gold. I cut a circle of burgandy cardstock and ran it through my Cuttlebug with the Snowflake folder. The white cardstock was sprayed with Memory Mist Gold spray ink to jazz it up a bit
when the gold was dry I stamped my Joy, joy stamp with Ranger Cranberry ink. I edged the white cardstock with my Ranger Espresso pen and attached everything as shown. I added 3 gold brads to my circle to finish the card off. These cards were fairly quick to mass produce despite all the steps! Thanks for looking!Recipe:
Stencil: Dreamweaver (penguin)
Stamp: Penny Black (Joy, joy)
Glitter: Glitter Ritz black, white and yellow
Other: Be Creative sugar beads, gold brads, Dreamweaver double sided adhesive, Memories Mist Gold, Ranger Cranberry dye ink, Ranger Espresso pigment pen, Cuttlebug Snowflake folder
Just a quick note to let you know Crafty Capers received an order from Art Impressions today. We now have in stock lots of watercolor stamps and the VERY popular "tree with bench" stamp. Hurry in for best selection.

Hummingbird

Here is a new, to me, Dreamweaver stencil I got last week. I thought I would give the glitter technique a try with the Microfine Glitter Ritz glitter in stock now at Crafty Capers.
Basically, the glitter technique with metal stencils involves double sided tape sheets (I prefer to use Dreamweaver's double sided adhesive), a metal stencil, 100% vegetable oil soap, and glitter. Cut your adhesive sheet about the size of the stencil. Peel off 1 side of the backing and put it onto a piece of scrap cardstock (you won't see it). Peel the other side of the backing off and set aside. Rub the back of your stencil with your soap, put on lots! This will act as a grease so the stencil does not permanently stick to the tape! Place the stencil soap side down on the adhesive. Carefully apply glitter where you want it. I used my craft knife as a scoop so I did not have glitter dumping straight from the bottle. Press the glitter where you want it and dump off the extra then move to the next color and so on. When all the open spaces in the stencil a
re covered turn the stencil and adhesive upside down the stencil is now facing your table. Carefully, peel the stencil off being careful not to bend the stencil. Fill the background of the stencil in with another color of glitter. For my card I used Glitter Ritz glitter in colors:
bronze, kiwi, fire red, moss green and sand.
The stamped saying is by Hero Arts and the embossed borders are "Frills" Cuttlebug folder.

Asian Lanterns

One final stencil card. This card looks like it was quite a bit of work, and it was, but I would make another one of these. I was not that bad. I have made cards that I would NOT make again because they were too much work. :)
I started off with a Dreamweaver stencil (lanterns) and traced it onto Dreamweaver Double sided adhesive sheets. This project was excellent for using up some of my bitsy scraps of double sided adhesive. I cut out each lantern and peeled off one side of the backing and attached the lanterns to a scrap of blue cardstock. Then I used my craft knife and cut out pieces of the lanterns leaving the sticky adhesive exposed. I had to remove pieces by color for example I cut out and exposed all the areas I wanted black once I was satisfied I sprinkled Glitter Ritz glitter onto the exposed areas. Then I moved onto the next color and so on. It was fairly easy because you will notice most cuts are straight. Once all areas were covered in glitter. I used my Tombow glue pen and added "hangers" for the lanterns using Gunmetal Glitter Ritz. I let the glue dry then used my Ranger Inkessentials white gel pen to draw the cords. To finish off the piece I stamped 2 images from Kompac "Little Bird" stamp set with Versafine Onyx black ink. I matted the piece twice and mounted it onto a main card I had embossed with Leafy Branch Cuttlebug folder.

A rose by any other name

I'm still playing with stencils with at least one more to go. This one was a fun one although in real life VERY glittery!
The background roses and Happy birthday are both Dreamweaver stencils.
First off I applied white Dreamweaver paste to the roses stencil on a red piece of cardstock while the paste was still wet I applied Sand and Liberty Blue Glitter Ritz glitter to the paste making sure it fell in a diagonal pattern and tapped off the extra. I set it aside to dry. While that was drying I used the white paste on the Happy Birthday on a scrap of blue paper. While the paste was wet I sparingly applied Sand glitter. I let that dry as well.
When everything was dry I matted with red and blue and attached the Happy birthday on top of the background. I thought the Happy birthday panel needed something on the ends so I used Antique Linen Distress Stickles. I did not pay attention while they were drying and ended up putting my hand in it so the dots ended up larger than I had intended. :)
All the supplies for this card are available from Crafty Capers in Lantzville BC. Thanks for stopping by.

Black Magic

Here is another card done with a Dreamweaver stencil. It was done with Black Dreamweaver stencil paste. I let the paste dry overnight then the next morning I put the stencil back on the card then I applied Ranger's Perfect Medium (found in 4 packs of Perfect Pearls) to the black paste. Having the stencil in place acts as a mask stopping the Perfect Medium from getting on your cardstock. Once that was done I applied Sunflower Sparkle, Turqouise and Green Patina colored Perfect pearls to the black paste. The Perfect Medium acts like a glue for the Perfect Pearls so they stay in place. After that was done. I did my matting using scraps of Bazzill cardstock and a piece of Fancy Pants patterned paper. I stenciled the Happy Birthday with a Dreamweaver stencil but left the paste black. I have at least 1 more stencil card coming tomorrow so stay tuned...

Best Wishes

I have a bunch of Dreamweaver stencils that I needed samples for so I've been playing with my stencils this week. This one I'm quite happy with. It's pretty simple. I started with (white) glossy cardstock that I brayered with Ranger's Big and Juicy rainbow pad called Happy Birthday. I really like this pad because it is nice and bright. After I had brayered I taped the Best Wishes stencil down with low tack tape on all 4 sides and used Dreamweaver's Pearl Paste. I let the sample dry for a few hours then cut out the Best Wishes part out with my Spellbinders ovals. I cut a larger mat out of black cardstock with my Spellbinders Scallop oval. I attached the ovals and voila! done. This card is much nicer in person. The paste did not photograph very well. The supplies for this card are all available from Crafty Capers. Thanks for looking!

Running Free

I actually, made this card before Christmas but did not get around to scanning it before now. I usually give my Dad "man" cards in his stocking for sending to his friends. This is actually the only one I got done! Sorry Dad!
I started with a scrap of glossy cardstock that had been sprayed with Memory Mist ink "pale ale". I then used a Dreamweaver stencil and embossed the horse 3 times with black embossing paste. This took a while because I did not want to accidently squish the wet paste so had to let each horse dry before moving onto the next one. For the record I started with the middle horse. When everything was dry I matted the glossy cardstock with brown cardstock that I had cut with a Fiskar's patterned scissor. I used the scrap "wiggly" brown cardstock as a mask to make the ground below the horses. I used Ranger's Adirondack Espresso dye ink for this. To finish off the card I stamped Art Impressions Clouds in Espresso ink and edged the top and bottom of the card with a Posh Gold Metallic pen.

This one is for Lorri!

I have a die hard friend/fan, Lorri who takes the time to comment on my cards so this one is for you!
I've been receiving LOTS of Dreamweaver stencils lately and they sent instructions for a new technique - Ink Transfer.
It's kind of hard to explain but I'll do my best and one warning, this technique takes practice. Thanks to Kathy for helping me practice!
You can do this in a spray box (to protect the dining room carpet) if you wish. I sprayed my glossy cardstock with Gold Memory Mist. This will be your image color. Remove paper and allow to dry. Place stencil inside your spray box and spray with Cherry Smoothie and Merlot Memory Mist. You want the stencil quite wet. Remove stencil from the box and place ink side up on a paper towel. Place pre-sprayed glossy cardstock onto inky side of the stencil and lightly brayer. Peel the cardstock off the stencil and you should have an image of the stencil! Too much ink or too little and you get mixed results!
I then cut out the orchid using my oval (large) Nestability and cut a coordinating scallop. I scored a frame around my card with my Scor-it and stamped the saying with Ranger ink. Finally, mounted my orchid onto the card.
As usual, all supplies are available from Crafty Capers.
Recipe:
Dreamweaver Orchid Stencil
Memory Mist sprays - Cherry Smoothie, gold and Merlot
Stamp - Inkadinkado
Ink - Ranger Adirondack Lights Pink Sherbert
Paper - glossy and scraps of Bazzil
Other - Scor-it board and Oval Nestabilities

Back to the beach

This card was actually a Make and Take held in May??? Can't remember exactly when now. This was done with a Dreamweaver metal stencil and glitter on double sided tape sheets. I believe I used Peel N Stick for this card but now like Dreamweavers Double Sided Adhesive better because it is not as sticky. So I cut a square of adhesive about the size of the stencil. Be careful if you stencil is smaller than your adhesive because you can get colored glitter on exposed adhesive and that might not be the look you are going for. Using soap (bar) made of 100% vegetable oil rub the back of your stencil. This will make your stencil less likely to stick to the adhesive. If you have any soap bits in the bridgework (spaces) of your stencil brush them out they will stop the glitter from making contact with the adhesive. Peel off one side of the adhesive and stick to your matting cardstock. Peel off the other side of the protective backing for your adhesive. Lay your stencil down on the adhesive. LIGHTLY press the stencil down so it has contact with the adhesive. Pour your colored glitter (you need to use Ultra fine, good quality glitter, no Dollar Store stuff) onto your stencil it needs to fill all the holes in your stencil. Press the glitter down to ensure good contact with the adhesive. With a soft paintbrush or blush brush wipe away extra glitter and return it to the container. Turn your cardstock and stencil upside down and remove the stencil (hopefully if you have put enough soap it will fall off). Pour a clear or light colored glitter over the entire piece and press down this will fill in all the spaces on the adhesive that the colored adhesive did not cover. Mat as desired. In my sample I finished off the card with a clear Hero Arts saying.
Don't forget World Card Day Tomorrow at the store! It will be lots of fun!

Partridge

I'm on a Christmas card "kick" at the moment. Here is a Dreamweaver stencil I've had for a few years now. I thought I pull it out and play again. I used gold embossing paste on the stencil and when it was dry I used Brillance Pearlescent Ivy on the leaves. I then used my Glue Palette to glue the pear and partridge. I heated the glue ink on the image until it was sticky then I added gold leafing. I finished off the card with a Penny Black word stamp and edged the oval with Distress ink Tea Dye ink. The back ground is done with the new Leafy Branch Cuttlebug folder.
All supplies are available at Crafty Capers.

Back at it

I think most of the orders are in and priced for the next while so I have some time now to play.
This card was done when Lolly and I were playing. The flower is a Dreamweaver stencil with gold embossing paste. When the paste was dry I used my Glue Palette ink and inked the pot part of the paste. I heated to make the glue sticky and put Black Leaf on it. I embossed the saying by Penny Black with Crafty Capers gold embossing powder. I thought the card looked a little naked so I used my Versamark pad with an Inkadinkado swirl stamp and stamed the background brown to fill it in. All supplies can be bought from Crafty Capers. I have a couple other projects to post so come back over the weekend for more!
