Buying trip!

Welcome back to the sadly neglected Crafty Capers blog, I think I should welcome myself back actually! LOL It has been really busy around the store with our usual day to day activities plus we have had 2 international guest instructors in the past few months and that is a ton of work prepping for that! Worth it though to be able to take classes with instructors who teach world wide.
Now it is my turn to be on a trip - a buying trip! It is time already to start looking at and buying Christmas and fall papers, stamps, inks and dies!
I will be attending the Sierra Pacific Trade show this time round. It begins tomorrow but my hubby and I arrived a few days early because I had special meetings and workshops to attend before the show. Yesterday, Friday, we started with a 14 hour bus trip travelling around to a bunch of vendors seeing their warehouses and new product and enjoying snacks or meals at every stop! I did my recommended number of steps but I am sure I did not lose any weight!
Our first stop was at American Crafts. They fed us an amazing breakfast of French toast with strawberries and whipped cream. I can't remember who they said made the French toast but I gathered it was sort of a Salt Lake City tradition. So yummy! I should have taken a photo but was too busy eating. We then toured their facilities and looked at new product and took a workshop with Dear Lizzie (Elizabeth Kartchner).

Then it was off to Simple Stories where we had a class with Layle Koncar

nothing to do with crafts but gave me a giggle!

Then it was off to Wood Creations where they sell wood  pieces to embellish with designer papers, ribbons and inks. Very cool!

Next up was the gang from Bo Bunny! They did a Christmas in July theme and sang us some cheery Christmas tunes

Well, it is late and I have another early morning so I will end it there. I will post about our fab dinner date and fun evening with Doodlebug tomorrow! Hope everyone is enjoying the sneak peaks.

Mother's Day Inspiration #2

Here is another card that could be used for Mother's Day. It was created with a Memory Box die, Tombow markers and a clear Wink of Stella pen to blend everything.
I added some Prima wired cord and a heart charm. The charm was originally antique silver but I did not like the color so I added some Ranger Cranberry Alcohol ink and I am happy with the new color. In real life the flowers and butterflies are nice and shimmery due to the Wink of Stella pan. In this close up photo I think you can see the shimmer a bit better.

Hope this card kicks your mojo into high gear. Have a great weekend and don't forget Mother's day on Sunday!

Mother's Day Inspiration

Mother's day is this weekend, if you are like me it kind of crept up and now you might be scrambling to get a card of two made well never fear I have a couple of cards for inspiration over the next few days.
This card is a copy of one I made for my MIL's birthday back in April but forgot to post. It is stamped with a layered set made by Impression Obsession. I found it easy to use, and although I own a Misti, stamped it without using it.
I used 6 different colors of yellow ink and it worked out well. The inks I used for the roses from the bottom up  the were
Archival Buttercup, Memento Dandelion, Distress Mustard Seed, Memento Cantaloupe (stamped twice on top of each other with the same stamp). Leaf colors were Memento Bamboo Leaves and Distress Peeled Paint. I must say I was not 100% happy with how the Distress inks stamped I found them kind of blotchy and I tried a few techniques to eliminate this but nothing helped. Memento and Archival stamped much better. Distress worked just not as good as the others.
The sentiment is by Penny Black and stamped with Versafine Deep Lagoon ink.
Did you know Crafty Capers now has an online store. I have added a link to the stamp set I used if you wish to purchase it.
Hope this card provided some inspiration!

Happy Birthday Linda!

It is my BFF's birthday today and I made her a special card.
I LOVE how it turned out. I used the new Prima Adhesive Rub-Ons with Decofoil gold foil. The Prima Rub-Ons are really easy to use and look very impressive in real life.
My background paper is by BoBunny and the metal embellishment is from the Tim Holtz Quote Bands. I highlighted the words in the Quote with gold acrylic paint.
As you can see the card is quite tall. I sized it to fit in a #10 envelope (business size). I matted the foil panel with gold mirror cardstock to finish it off.

A close up. All supplies are available at Crafty Capers in Nanaimo.

Hope everyone is having a great and Happy Birthday Linda!

Playing with Dolls

Whew, it has been a busy couple months around Crafty Capers - new products, customers and classes. I have been so busy with "business stuff" lately that, sadly, I have not had much time to play with all the tempting new goodies. Since today is the start of a holiday weekend, I thought, what the heck, might as well goof off!
I created this fun tag using a Julie Nutting stamp and new Photo Play Paper "Paper Dolls" paper. I am not normally a doll girl but I must say this was fun to make. I colored the doll's skin with my Chameleon markers and then paper pieced her dress, head band and shoes and embellished the tag with stickers and papers all from the Paper Dolls line. At the moment, all the supplies I used on this project are available at Crafty Capers.  If you are from out of town and want anything shipped to you please contact me and I will see what I can do.

Thanks everyone for stopping by.
